The finish line isn’t for the average

We live in an era where success is portrayed as something aesthetic. As a “carefully structured” social media post, topped with an inspirational quote. But the truth is, the path to any serious goal looks more like crawling through mud, plus, everyone on the sidelines is screaming that you are an idiot.

Most people don’t finish. They don’t even make it to the halfway mark. They fail because their internal “circuit breaker” gets tripped at the first sign of overload. If you want to stop being one of those who only “starts”, you have to look into the eyes of these three “demons”.

Pain – your weakness

Modern society makes us “soft”. We believe that discomfort is a system error, but in reality, pain is the payment for growth. When a muscle tears, it grows back larger. When the brain “overheats” from effort, it creates new neural pathways and connections. If you stop the moment it starts to hurt – whether it’s physical fatigue, stress, or an emotional experience – you are effectively saying: “My current comfort is more important than my future”.

Reality: Those who reach the goal don’t suffer less than you. They have simply decided that pain is temporary, but staying exactly where they are would be eternal agony.

Fear – your cowardice

Many people “sit” at the starting line for years because they need to “rethink the strategy” or “wait for the right moment.” Nonsense! That is the fear of the world seeing your failures. Fear is your ego trying to protect you from public humiliation. You are afraid that you will waste time and nothing will work out. You are afraid that you will look like a fool.

Fact: You are already a fool if you think you can achieve something great without even taking a risk.
Reality: Fear doesn’t have to be destroyed. You have to learn how to work with it. Fear is like background noise, it can play, but it must not hold the steering wheel.

The opinion of others

This is the most pathetic reason for giving up. You are ready to destroy your potential just so a neighbor or some other person doesn’t think anything bad about you.

People will criticize you for two reasons:

  • They don’t understand you (and that is normal, because the goal is yours, not theirs).
  • Your actions remind them of their own cowardice. When you start to act, you make them feel bad while they sit on the couch. Their job is to pull you back down to their level.

The choice is in your hands

The world is full of “almost” stories. I almost wrote a book. I almost started a company. These stories interest no one.

A goal is not reached when it is easy and sunny. It is reached at the moment when everything hurts, you are deathly afraid, and everyone around you is laughing, but you take the next step anyway. You don’t have to be the most talented. You have to be the one who refuses to give up the longest.
